Sometimes breaking tradition isn’t such a bad idea. Instead of sticking to a safe design, our client in Costa Mesa opted for a retro-inspired kitchen mixed with edgy, modern elements. The result? A stunning kitchen she absolutely loves.
Cool fact: These exact same blue retro lights can be found in the newly remodeled Ruby’s Diner down the street in Costa Mesa!
After talking to Camile, the homeowner, we learned that she has always had a love for retro design:
“I wanted my kitchen to reflect my style and my love for a bygone era, and also incorporate modern appeal. I’m so excited how it turned out. It’s perfect,” says Camile.
When it came to the backsplash design, Camile had her heart set on an unconventional teal and pink pattern. According to our installer, it was one of the most difficult designs to install, but it was worth it because it turned out stunning! We added under cabinet lights to add an extra spotlight and brighten up the counter space as well.
Another essential of a 60s-inspired kitchen is the cabinet handle. These boomerang style handles are a staple in retro design, and we think they really add a unique touch to this kitchen.
To add a contemporary flair to this kitchen fit for the Flinstones, we added several sleek elements. Most notably is the stainless steel refrigerator, oven and microwave. The sink is also stainless steel, and the countertops in the kitchen are a sparkly Cambria quartz. These modern appliances offset the retro design to create a stylish and functional space that is reminiscent of the 60s but completely liveable today. What do you think of this kitchen?
